I Was In Denial
Tarot cards are often used for spiritual guidance and self-reflection or at least that’s what people say. But in my opinion, I always saw them as something that could warn me when something bad was about to happen. And one day, they did exactly that. The only problem? I didn’t want to believe them. I was in denial, because the warning wasn’t about a situation, it was about a person. Someone I trusted. Someone close.
I went to my lab class as usual and was already bored, since I don’t do much there besides sit and chat with my friend Dani. She’s pretty quiet most of the time, but she’s really into spiritual stuff like tarot cards, crystals, candles, and all that. The lab was quiet-ish as always, bright lights, cold chairs, and the background noise of typing and quiet chattering from other classmates.
We were talking about something that I don’t even remember until she suddenly said something that made my whole body go cold.
“I don’t want to scare you, but there’s someone behind you.”
My heart dropped to my stomach and without skipping a beat, I asked her, “Huh? Who’s behind me?”
Dani told me it was some dark figure, and it seemed like a guy. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking, Is it that black figure from when I was a kid? A dead relative? Is she seeing things? Thousands of questions ran through my head. Then Dani said, “It looks like an older gentleman, maybe a grandfather figure.” At that moment, I thought it must be my grandpa, who passed away more than a decade ago. I looked at Dani and asked, “What exactly are you seeing? And what does this figure want from me?”
She had told me before that she could talk to spirits and read tarot cards. Honestly, I never really believed her, at least not about the spirit stuff. But that day, everything changed.
She gave me a spiritual reading about my life, and to be honest, she got it all right, right down to my family drama. I felt even colder than before. It was scary especially since I had only known her for less than three weeks.
Dani noticed my body language and said, “Hey, I’m not trying to scare you. I’m here to warn you.”
“Warn me about what?” I asked, feeling even more confused.
She sighed and said, “Your grandpa is really mad. He doesn’t approve of one of your friends. It seems like he hates you hanging out with her and wants you to stay away. She’s the type of girl who puts on a front.”
I was really confused. “Who could my grandpa not like? All my friends seem fine to me.” But after that, I couldn’t stop overthinking. I went through each of my friends’ personalities, the way they acted around me, their energy, but nothing made any sense to me. That night, I went home feeling confused and worried.
Of course, I told my close friend Jay about the situation. He said, “I have an idea on who it could be because she gave me really weird vibes.” I was skeptical about the person he mentioned, but something inside me said I needed to get a reading to be sure like I needed some clarification whether or not it really was the person he suspects since he’s never wrong. I told him, “I don’t know… it’s kinda hard to believe she would be that type of person.”
At the next lab, I asked Dani if she could do a more in-depth reading about the whole thing. She nodded and said, “I’ll do it once I get home.” Later that day, she called me on FaceTime. I could see her shuffling the cards over the phone, and that’s when she did her magic.
Seeing Dani prepare her cards and shuffle them made me really nervous and scared. I told her, “I don’t want to believe that one of my friends could smile in front of me, yet be jealous the second I turn my back.”
Dani said, “There are people like that in the world. Like this girl I knew! Girl she was something, but thank God she isn’t in my life.”
I stayed quiet. Then suddenly, the cards flew out; The Devil, The Magician, and The Sun. Dani looked at them and said, “All major arcana… that means this is big.”
She pointed to The Devil. “This one’s not a clear yes or no, but obsession and manipulation really stand out.” Then The Magician. “Desire, control. She hasn’t done anything yet, but she wants to. She’s trying to make something happen.”
Finally, The Sun. “Happiness, confidence, success… things she sees in you and maybe wants for herself.” She looked at me and said, “And I think it has something to do with Jay.”
I didn’t get what Jay had to do with any of this. That’s when Dani said, “She’s jealous of you. Not because of your grades, clothes, or anything like that. She’s jealous because of a boy.”
I made a wtf face. “And that boy is Jay,” she added. Yeah… this is some bullshit.
The cards revealed she was jealous of how close me and him are. She wanted to be in that position and also wanted to be his girl, which is wild. Once the reading was over, my friend advised me to put some distance between me and her. Of course, I did that because I’m not trying to have any negativity in my circle.
But part of me still couldn’t believe it. How could she be jealous of me over a guy? A GUY? It’s really stupid in my opinion, but hey, to each their own.
Months passed, and during that time, I told my other friends about the whole situation. At first, they were in shock. But when we actually sat down and talked it through as a group, we started pointing out the weird behaviors she’d had all along. That’s when I found out things about her I never knew. All of my friends backed me up, and one of them even confronted her.
The second that confrontation happened, all this heavy weight of negativity came off my shoulders. Could it be that she’d been spitting negative energy onto me? Who knows. I just know those tarot cards saved me from dealing with a two faced person. Sometimes the cards don’t just tell the future, they actually help you see the truth right in front of you.
